GRAND BUFFET is a rap group from the United States. Specifically, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania part of the United States. Pittsburgh is home to great sports teams like the Penguins (hockey) and the Steelers (American football), and also is home to cool people like Fred Rogers and Andy Warhol.
GRAND BUFFET consists of two members: Jarrod Weeks (a.k.a. Lord Grunge, a.k.a. Matt Kukla, a.k.a. Fred Durts) and Jackson O’Connell-Barlow (a.k.a. Grape-A-Don, a.k.a. Nate Kukla, a.k.a. Mr. Pennsylvania). Lord Grunge, the self proclaimed “Don of alternative hip-hop” and Grape-a-Don, “the king of the campground” weave clever pop culture laden lyrics with pop sensible, hip-hop approved beats.
Grand Buffet has toured all over the globe. Along the way they’ve shared the stage with acts like Sage Francis, Wesley Willis, Of Montreal, The Dismemberment Plan, Mates of State, Magnolia Electric Co., Sole and the Pixies.
KING VISION is the seventh release by the independent hip-hop/synth-pop sociopaths. The album marks their tenth year as a group and is a definite departure from their previous material. While their requisite low fidelity production is still present, the songs themselves offer a wider range of styles. While some tracks are indeed “hip-hop” tracks, the album also moves in directions of progressive rock, pop, rock-pop, pop-rock, progressive-pop-rock, pop-punk, and even progressive-pop-rock-trip-hop. Lyrically, the main themes of KING VISION are those of individual freedom and self-empowerment (which, believe it or not, haven’t gone out of style).
“Grand Buffet are consistently the most entertaining group I have ever had the priveledge of sharing shows with. And we’ve done about 80 shows together.” – Sage Francis
